I climbed Mount Tarumae when I was station at Chitose air base back in 1956. I worked on f86 fighter planes. I would like to know how many times has mount tarumae erupted since I was there? Thank You Charlie Bristow Back then Chitose was just a small city but I loved it.

It appears the most recent eruption was in 1982. I think there was also a smaller one in 1978.
I think the volcano was a lot more active during the early 50s, just before you climbed.
Currently there’s a lot of hissing and steam coming from the crater, so I can imagine that another eruption in the not too distant future.
