Hiking in Japan

The mountainous areas of Yamaguchi, Hiroshima, Okayama, and Shimane Prefectures offer a wonderful opportunity to explore one of western Japan’s most unspoilt regions, with lush forests, subterranean caverns, and ancient volcanoes. Part of the challenge in hiking here lies in accessing the trails without a car. Mt. Daisen is the easiest as far as access goes, but also attracts the crowds, especially in the summer season. This page will be expanded in the future to include other great mountains, including Mt. Hiruzen and Mt Nagisan.
